"What is more American than your favorite t-shirt and blue jeans? Maybe apple pie, but you can’t wear it!  The economy has people doing without the extras such as buying art, but they still want to have something that expresses their own uniqueness.  The Blue Jean and T-Shirt ball celebrates affordable art as the canvas is the classic American T-shirt.

The Yoknapatawpha Arts Council has teamed up with artists, celebrities, and fashion designers to create a ball that is affordable for all. Your ticket is to get out of that stuffy suit and cocktail dress and come dressed in your favorite t-shirt and blue jeans.

The Blue Jean and T-Shirt Ball, scheduled for April 20, 2010 at the Power House in Oxford, Mississippi, not only will benefit the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council also the Student Arts Association. The event will feature an exhibit of uniquely designed, autographed and created t-shirts by artists like Jerry Edmund, musician Jimmy Buffet and Eli Manning.

Guests will be able to leave with their favorite wearable work of art by making a donation to the arts council and receiving a sold sticker to place on the t-shirt of their choice in a reverse auction.  Instead of bidding for a flat donation guests have a chance to win their favorite shirt.  Tired of having that same, old t-shirt as everyone else in town?   This free event will feature several artists creating t-shirts on site.  Guests can have the clothes they are wearing transformed into a work of art, or get a little paint under their nails and make their own wearable art with assistance from the artists.
